The Power of a Mock-up

Everyone wants to put their best foot forward. You can have the best design solution for your client and sometimes they just can see what you see. Why leave it up to chance? Show them what you see with a digital mock-up. Digital mockups are everywhere now and if you are not using or creating your own then you probably aren't even aware you have seen any. A mockup is a prototype and enables testing of a design. It helps you show the client the end result without final approval. There is power in seeing versus imagining. It's important to show your work in the best light possible and here is an example of what I mean. Which of the following would you share with the client if you had a choice?

One comes across as warm and showcases the design in a better light, and makes me hungry.

It is not insanely difficult to create your own mock-up templates. Its about a great photo with good lighting and layers of Photoshop smart objects. But, to get your feet wet I suggest trying free templates. There are lots of sites out there that have free photo realistic templates for you to download. Here are a few of the sites worth checking out.

The DSVC

I am honored to be a member of The Dallas Society Of Visual Communications for over 5 years. This organization has been around since 1957 and is for all professionals looking to be apart of the creative community at-large. This year I am a board member! Whoo Hoo! Just call me lady fancy pants.

This organization is filled with so many talented professionals and students and if you happen to be in Dallas the 1st Wednesday of any month stop by the Angelika Film Center at 6pm and prepare to be amazed. They bring in a featured creator from anywhere in the world to talk and answer questions. You also get a bad-ass poster to take home with you.

So, if you are in the DFW area check out the DSVC site and poke around a look at past events. I am sure you will see a piece of work or creator that you recognize. Here are some of our past speakers. We have some very exciting events to come this year so stay tuned.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me and I can get you an answer. Follow the DSVC on facebook, twitter, instagram to get all the latest news.
